As part of its CSR policy, in which social commitment, supporting entrepreneurship and assisting with training and innovative projects are key aspects and part of its business culture, COX ENERGY has signed an agreement with the University of Santiago de Chile to become one of the sponsors of the university’s Solar Team, which is participating in the 2016 Atacama Solar Race, whose aim is to promote photovoltaic solar energy as a clean and affordable energy source, and to consolidate technological and sustainable development.
The ESUS team, which includes students from various disciplines, such as Electrical, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and Architecture, are competing in this environmentally friendly race in Latin America with the Apollo III vehicle that they designed themselves, with the support of Cox Energy who, among other things, has purchased and transported all of the tyres that will be used by the solar vehicle. These are Energizer Solar tyres, designed and manufactured especially for solar races. Their main features include low rolling resistance, high durability and reliability. They are tubular and can withstand speeds of up to 120 km/h.
The race will be held on the 21st and 27th of April over 2,300 kilometres across the Atacama Desert, the most arid on the planet.
Teams from the best universities, technical colleges and public/private partnerships in Chile and on all five continents will compete in the race.
